San Pedro - Saint Peter

This sculpture is in San Francisco el Grande Basilic in Madrid.

Group of sculptures representing the Twelve Apostles.

Within San Francisco el Grande Basilic there is a sculptural representation of the twelve apostles, distributed in a semicircle around the high altar.

Suñol is the author of two of the apostles flanking the corridor, Saint Peter and Saint Paul. In the opinion of his contemporary colleagues, those sculptures are the most important and best finished works of Suñol.

Saint Peter's posture, leaning on the cornerstone and surrounded by the sober elegance of his cape, is reminiscent of the statue of Sophocles located in the Vatican.
